A Day at the Portland Library
Recently Wild Ones participated in an event at the Portland library. Crash the opossum demonstrated the wonder of nature and the importance of conservation.
Dawn Capellino Godfrey was kind enough to post about the event on her Facebook page.
A Close Encounter with a Possum
The room was buzzing with excitement as little ones—and their parents—eagerly awaited the appearance of Crash, the star of the show. The children learned about this often misunderstood marsupial that is usually only seen at night. The experience was educational and it was a rare opportunity for families to connect with nature in a personal and meaningful way.
Capturing the Moment: A Day of Photos and Memories
These photos are a testament to the impact that wildlife education can have on a community, especially when it brings people closer to the animals that share our world.
Honoring a Mentor: A Special Moment for Mike
The event took on an extra special meaning when Mike’s mentor made a surprise visit. In the world of wildlife rehabilitation, mentorship is invaluable. It’s through the guidance and wisdom of experienced rehabilitators that newcomers like Mike learn the skills they need to care for and protect wildlife.
As the two reconnected, the mentor presented Mike with a thoughtful gift—a copy of a news article that featured Mike and his work with Wild Ones. The gesture was a touching reminder of the importance of recognizing those who have guided us on our journeys.
The spirit of the day was a celebration of learning, community, and the deep connections that drive us to protect and preserve our natural world.
A Heartfelt Thank You
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Dawn and to the Portland Public Library for the incredible work they do and for making events like this possible. Your dedication to wildlife education and conservation continues to inspire us all.
